Translation of Firms, Trademarks and Company Names

Abstract

The translation of firms, trademarks and company names is an indispensable part of the enterprises’ foreign marketing promotion strategy. Their translation should confirm to the language characteristics and cultural backgrounds of the respective countries so that potential customers will be established. This thesis analyzes the importance of translating these names by examing their specific characteristics and problems in translation, and providing methods of translation in the perspective of culture.The purpose of this research is to achieve a better understanding of firm, trademark and company name translation process and overcome the cultural barriers to successful translations of them.

摘 要

商号、商标以及公司名称的翻译是企业拓展海外市场战略中不可缺少的部分。他们的翻译应该涉及到各个国家的语言特征和文化背景,这样才能获取潜在的顾客优势。本文通过阐述这些名称的特殊特征以及列举的1些翻译他们时存在的问题,和从文化角度给出的1些翻译方法来分析翻译他们的重要性。本文研究的目的是为了更好地理解商号、商标及公司名称的翻译过程,并突破文化障碍以便准确的翻译这些名称。
